Calming Words

“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.” -Psalm 94:19

There is nothing like the calming words of a parent. When life had me overwhelmed at the tender age of nine because of a late homework assignment or a friend who didn’t want to play with me, all I needed was my mom or dad to tell me, “Everything is going to be okay.” Then magically, everything was. The circumstances hadn’t changed, but something in my heart had thanks to the consoling words of my parents.

God wants to meet us in the midst of our anxiety and speak peace. He isn’t necessarily going to change the situation and make it all better, but he will replace our worry with joy in knowing that our Heavenly Father is with us always.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, thank you for your calming words in the midst of my anxiety. I pray that I would be attentive to your voice, and that I would be brought to peace by your loving words.
