Behind The Action

“We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.” -1 Thessalonians 1:3

Anyone can work hard. You don’t have to be a Christian to be dedicated to your craft or persevere through a difficult time. There are a lot of things in this world that can be accomplished using merely human strength. Just because you work hard, labor long, and endure hardship doesn’t necessarily mean you’re working for God.

The difference for the believer is that our work is produced, or inspired by faith in a God who has called us to that work specifically. Our labor is an act of service that is brought forth by the love we have for God and for those around us. We endure, not because we think we can do it, but because we have a God who has already done it, and we have hope that he will do it again.

Actions alone don’t make us workers for God’s kingdom. The heart and motivation behind the action matters just as much.

PRAYER: Father God, I pray that by faith I would continue to put my hand to the work you have called me to. May my labor be prompted by your love that you poured out for me, and let it be an act of love that I share with you and those around me. Strengthen me with hope that leads to endurance no matter the setback or struggle. Thank you, Father. Amen.
